456 GTA
|
The 2+2 coupe has been part of the Ferrari model lineup for much of the company's history and it is the 456 GT, introduced in 1993, which occupies that place today. While its Pininfarina-designed body is thoroughly modern, the model is nevertheless intended to evoke the classic shapes of earlier Ferrari 2+2 coupes. The 456 GT's power train is classic Ferrari as well: a front-mounted V12 engine feeding power to a rear-mounted gearbox. Electronically controlled suspension dampers allow the driver to adjust the chassis to suit a variety of driving conditions.
The 1999 Ferrari 456 GT is available in a two trims; 456 GT and 456 GTA. The only 4-passenger Ferrari available, the 456 GT features such safety features as dual airbags and an anti-lock brake system (ABS). The exterior is constructed of aluminum, with the hood and headlight lids honeycomb-fabricated from composite materials. The interior is trimmed with leather and a custom-made 5-piece luggage set has its place in the trunk. Powering the 456 GT is a 5.5-liter 48-valve V12 engine teamed with a transaxle-mounted 6-speed manual transmission. The 456 GTA is outfitted with a 4-speed automatic transmission.
